Shooting Schedule
Unfortunately due to the composition of the shots we used, we could not use split screen editing on our clips, so we had to use the next week and a half to re-start all of our filming. We did this within two lessons this week, and worked on Final Cut Express and Imovie HD to get to grips with the software and learn how to split screen edit, as well as standard editing.
We finally learnt to use the Final Cut Express software and eventually discovered how to create a split screen edit. We literally had to cut each shot in half and put them together. We are currently converting the file to a .mov file, as this is the only way we could transfer it into imovie HD and into our project. This didn't work so we had to instead convert to a file that could play using the quicktime player. This took around 20-30 minutes of a lesson, so we had to wait over the weekend to upload it onto a memory stick and onto the iMac we are using. We did this and uploaded the file into imovie. It is now in our timeline and featured in our music video.
We re-drafted the storyboards after deciding that the scene where our main boxhead character would have had to dance in a large circle of people needed to be altered. This was due to the fact that it would be too difficult to film and arrange, therefore we decided instead to go with our character dancing to the music in our college theatre on his own. We have now filmed it from various different angles and utilised the dolly to give the movement of the camera greater stability.
We have finally finished filming and started the editing process using imovie 09 on the macs! and also we have finished our digipak and poster final designs. We just need to print them out and get some feedback :)
We finished editing this week! and currently can't put the video onto Blogger so we uploaded it onto Youtube instead to reach a wider audience :)

Music Video Productivity Log Autumn-Winter Term
For this video, we brainstormed various different ideas by listening to the song numerous times and writing up rough drafts of anything that came to mind.
We did this for about 1-2 lessons, and eventually came up with a final draft of our initial idea.
We also started to draw up different ideas for the cd cover and posters
We started to storyboard what ideas we had come up with collectively as a group to see what we felt would go well with the song we had chosen. This was still the first draft of the idea so throughout we were still continuously making adjustments and changes. We all talked about different possibilities of what could be used in our video, such as possible green screen effects for various parts of the sequence, the content of all the shots etc.
During the next week or so we were all working together to produce a more detailed time-line for our project. We wanted to plan out exactly what would be happening and when, without drawing the shots alongside. We did this as it would make it easier for us to create several draft storyboards based on a 'template' so we knew exactly when and how to do things.
Also we started to collate ideas as a group and attempted to create our initial storyboard. We completed our first draft by the end of the week, and we posted it on one of our blogs until a later stage
Throughout the rest of the term we filmed all the shots we could with the facilities such as the theatre and various classrooms throughout the college available to us, uploaded the footage we had onto the iMac we are using and began editing.
Brad Sucks - 'Making Me Nervous' Song Lyrics & Analysis
one step at a time don’t be living on the line
i don’t need a friend i got morbid on the mind
sunshine in my brain making everyone complain
radio in the heart don’t be being so strange
i think i’m losing it baby where you been
everybody says that you’re moving again
i don’t wanna be right baby every single night
i could tell you a thing about taking your time
it’s making me nervous yeah
one step at a time don’t be living on the line
i don’t need a friend i got morbid on the mind
sunshine in my brain making everyone complain
radio in the heart don’t be being so strange
i think i’m losing it baby where you been
everybody says that you’re moving again
i don’t wanna be right baby every single night
i could tell you a thing about taking your time
it’s making me nervous yeah
(instrumental)
i think i’m losing it baby where you been
everybody says that you’re moving again
i don’t wanna be right baby every single night
i could tell you a thing about taking your time
it’s making me nervous yeah
- We have analysed the song and it contains a bass guitar, electric guitar, drum kit and a vocal part. we have considered these simple concepts and have decided to create our music video based on half-narrative and half performance. The steady tempo of the song will be useful when adding the two separate halves together, as editing on the beat will be made slightly easier. This is because of the calm nature of the song, as it requires little to be happening in each shot. We have decided to use a member of our group as the main focus during the narrative, and this means that we will know how we want certain things to be done, so the final product will be exactly how we collectively invisaged.

Risk Assessment and Safety Measures
During filming risks will be present. Some of these are:
- Loose wires or mise-en-scene provide unwanted tripping hazards for actors and/or the production team. To prevent this we could move all objects out of the way unless they are needed, and also tie any loose cables/wires up to maximise safety. This is also the case with heavy objects such as a piano or a drum kit. To avoid these objects falling on actors or crew we can make sure they are kept clear of unless they are needed.
- As we are in a theatre, the floor will be quite slippery, which could cause crew and/or actors to slip and injure themselves. To avoid injury, we can ensure that shoes are worn at all time and that if any surface is slippery at all then we need to clean it up and make sure that it is safe to work on, especially for the production team and the camera operator. We will inspect the condition of the surfaces when deciding which locations we will use in our video.
- If lights shining on the stage are too bright, then the person in the light may be susceptible to being blinded and therefore may damage their eyes or vision. Before we start to even 'dry run' through the shots, we need to make sure that the lights (if used) are at a safe brightness and that our actors will not be in danger of being blinded.
- This is also the case with volumes of instruments. If we allow the musicians featuring in our music video then we can ensure greater control of volume with little adjustment needed throughout. This makes sure that the instruments do no exceed a safe volume level and therefore do not put anyone at risk of damaging their hearing.

Marmaduke Duke - 'Duke Pandemonium' CD Cover Analysis
"Rubber Lover" by Marmaduke Duke Video Analysis
Slipknot CD Cover Analysis
'Spit It Out' - Slipknot Video Analysis
- Tracking Shot behind the drummer of his body to start with
- Camera cuts to torso and face of drummer riding tricycle to white door with two little girls holding hands in the frame. The camera cuts to medium-long shot of the door frame and the little girls standing in it.
- Camera uses match-on-action to show little girls change into two other band members with a quick white fade out then back in lasting about and music starts (editing on the beat). They are dressed the same as the girls and standing the same as them, perhaps showing another side of the girls?
- Cuts to the vocalist in a close up shot of him singing as the lyrics start to come in - Lip Syncing
- Cuts to each band member using medium-close ups or close-ups of them playing their instruments and headbanging in time with the music. The speed of cuts is in time with the drum beat, which relates to the genre of heavy metal (fast paced and energetic)
- Cuts to crowd to show reaction and liveliness of band
- Fast paced camera shots show the energy produced by the band and support the genre of music the video is for. If the music was any slower there would be too much contrast between the pacing of the camera shots and the speed of music and it would not be aesthetically pleasing to a viewer.
- As the song ends and the music cuts out we have diagetic music and it cuts back to the drummer riding the tricycle from the beginning shots to keep the continuity going (As this is also the establishing shot of the video) because the tricycle was the first focus and it is the last in the videos.
